A little help and advice...
A little help and advice...

If your child (now a fully-fledged adult) has left school without moving directly to college or into work, there can be some confusion about the provision for them. Skills for getting work are not always easy to grasp when you are neuro-diverse and understanding the words used in the world of work can easily be misinterpreted if you are not familiar. It is important to be proactive, but this can be difficult if you do not have those basic skills.
There are, however, several organisations in Cornwall who can offer support, but you need to know who they are:
• Positive People
• Gamechangers www.cornwallislesofscillygrowthprogramme.org.uk
• Building Better Opportunities
• Outlook Southwest
• Pentreath Ltd (exists for people living with mental health and emotional difficulties)
In addition, there are college courses that can assist but may not be immediately obvious to you. For instance, if you are looking to work at a building site, a CSCS card will be needed to show your knowledge of Health and Safety at work. Colleges run these courses.
The Special Needs Provision goes up to the age of 25 so contact SENDIASS for more advice and guidance for your young person. Https://cornwallsendiass.co.uk
